Three-lobed Burning Eye

6.3.08
Submissions through 4/1/08 have been read and responded to. For the most part, except for a few.

4.1.08
As you can see, Issue #17 is here for your reading pleasure.

3.2.08
Some people might say we've been on hiatus, but I would disagree. It's simply been a long reading period. We're making the decision on the final story, but let me announce that 3LBE #17 will be up by April 1 — and that's no joke. Also, submissions through 2/18/08 have been read and responded to.

1.19.08
Submissions through 12/30/07 have been read and responded to.

1.10.08
Did you vote for Three-lobed Burning Eye in the Critter's Preditors & Editors Readers' Poll? Deadline is January 15.

1.9.08
Unfortunately, it will now have been nearly one year between issues. Rest assured, we're not taking any vacation time at the 3LBE headquarters. Still awaiting another good story or two. Send 'em in!

12.24.07
Submissions through 11/10/07 have been read and responded to. We raised our pay rate.

11.26.07
Annual call for support! As the holidays approach, think about donating to 3LBE's web hosting bill. We want to keep the magazine free for all our readers, and keep those pesky advertisements off the pages too!

11.14.07
Submissions through 9/23/07 have been read and responded to. Currently halfway to the next issue in story selection.

8.10.07
3LBE Annual vol III is in the mail. I bound these trade paper editons myself. Today I enjoyed the weather outside and a beer, while addressing and stuffing envelopes. If you ordered a copy, or contributed a story, you'll see it soon. Reading for issue #17 resumes this weekend.

6.23.07
My planned press date for the 3LBE Annual vol III was pushed back a few weeks. Some of the gallery artists had more difficulty retrieving archived hi-res versions of their artwork, but at least they could locate the art. Additionally, I realized there was still a gap in the back cover artwork for issue 12 — Rew X had never completed the piece. We certainly couldn't go to press with so many pieces missing. Everything looks good now. Once the annual goes to press, I'll resume reading for online issue #17. Currently read and responded to submissions dated April 13 or before.

5.12.07
Thank you for your orders. The 3LBE Annual vol III should go to press soon. I'm waiting on a few of the gallery artists to send hi-res versions of their pieces, and proofing the rest of the layout in the meantime.

4.15.07
Because there will be only one printing, we're extending the order time for 3LBE Annual vol III.

2.20.07
As promised, the print anthology is on its way. The 3LBE Annual vol III will be printed in April. We're taking orders now over at Legion Press. Don't wait, since we only make one print run of the annuals, and only in the quantity pre-ordered. In other words — no leftovers! This annual collects issues #9–12 of 3LBE, in a color or B&W version. Expect a new cover image from Rew X soon.

1.20.07
As you can see, issue 16 is finally up and awaiting your reading pleasure. All of these stories seem to include some element of magic. This was entirely unitentional on the editor's part. You will also notice some further changes in format, which I hope enhances readability. This is also the first table-less CSS-based issue. Beyond this, submissions through 1/10/06 have been read and responded to, and expect an announcement soon for the print annual anthology volume III.

1.4.07
The sixth and final story for issue 16 has been selected. Look for the new issue within two weeks. In the meantime, enjoy the new front page layout and support pages featuring all CSS and no tables. You may notice that subdirectories for the various issues have changed in an effort to escape capital letters in the URL (e.g. "/3LBE15/" to "/issue15/"). Eventually this subdirectory may change as well.

12.9.06
Edging ever closer to the extremely delayed issue #16. Five (of six) stories have been selected. I expect to publish this issue soon. I must admit that it's been a slow year for submissions — call them "good" or just the ones that "meet our needs." I can't blame the long wait since last September's issue #15 on my personal priorities, divorce, the nice weather or getting the cover artwork done. The decision to discontinue the art gallery in each issue was based on the inordinate search time for new artists. It's obvious now that doubling the number of stories in each issue has certainly increased the assembly time. I sincerely wish this magazine could afford to pay professional rates, which might attract more submissions. I'm considering adding advertisements, which is the primary funding source for most magazines, though I've been against that idea from the beginning. For now, we'll get this issue out and see what the future holds. 3LBE will continue, that's for sure.

10.29.06
For story submissions, I've implemented an online form. The submissions email address will be deactivated, though the contact form will remain active.

10.22.06
I've finally cleaned up the backend code and applied the new style sheet (last seen in issue #15) to all previous issues. Among other small details, this style increases the size and line spacing of the story text.

10.8.06
Both the submissions email address and the join mailing list functions were having problems, but have now been fixed. If you attempted to send a story or add yourself to the mailing list, please try again. In other news — submissions through September 16 have been read and received responses. We still need two stories for issue #16.

8.9.06
The subscriber list is now tied to a database. So a one-time email has gone out to subscribers (prevously) kept on Andrew's manual list, which asks that you confirm your subscription. This automated system will work better for everyone. Now you can unsubscribe by yourself — but who would want to commit such a diabolical sin?!

7.25.06
Submissions through June 22 have been read and responded to. Still looking for a few good stories.

3.5.06
Several queries have been made about whether 3LBE is still publishing and reading submissions. The answer is yes to both. Please note that in the submission guidelines we strive for three issues each year, but this doesn't always happen. Besides 3LBE being a labor of love project, there are periods in which I simply don't receive as many quality submissions. This all being said, the latest news is submissions through 1.1.06 have been read and responded to, plan for a few issues this year, and print anthology Vol 3 sometime soon.
